Super Rugby and The Rugby Championship will this season adopt the Law Amendments that were announced by World Rugby in July 2017 prior to the start of the 2017/2018 northern hemisphere season. The amendments relate to the scrum (Law 20), tackle (Law 15) and ruck (Law 16).
SANZAAR has announced the referee team that will officiate the 2018 Super Rugby season. With the Super Rugby tournament format reducing to 120 regular season matches this season the referee team has been reduced from 19 to 17 referees.
Apart of an internal restructure Japan Head Coach Jamie Joseph has been appointed the Head Coach of the Sunwolves. Joseph brings a wealth of past experience and knowledge of Super Rugby and this will be of great benefit to the Sunwolves.
The Round 16 (South Africa and Australia only) Super Rugby team of the week has representatives from seven of the 10 teams in the five-match round. Player of the Week is Stormers fullback Dillyn Leyds who scored two tries, carried 20 times, beat 3 defenders and ran for 240 metres.
Super Rugby is back with the completion of Round 15 with a South African smorgasbord. All six South African teams will take to the field this weekend, with two local derbies and two more games featuring the Jaguares and Sunwolves.
The Round 14 Super Rugby team of the week has representatives from ten of the 18 teams after the nine-match round and includes three Highlanders and three Cheetahs. Player of the week is Sharks fullback David Havili who scored a try, carried 18 times, beat 10 defenders and ran for 191 metres.
The Round 12 team of the week has representatives from eight of the teams and includes four Reds and three Blues players. Player of the week is Reds captain and Wallaby Centre Samu Kerevi who scored two tries, beat 9 defenders and ran for 150 metres.
