Ryan Tongia to face judicial hearing

Ryan Tongia of the Highlanders will face a judicial hearing on Tuesday evening after being shown a red card in a Super Rugby trial match over the weekend.

All pre-season Super Rugby matches held are under the authority of the host union, hence this disciplinary matter is within the jurisdiction of the Australian Rugby Union and not SANZAR, however any potential sanctions could and would apply to the Super Rugby season.

Ryan Tongia of the Highlanders has been cited for alleged foul play during a Super Rugby trial match at the weekend.

Tongia is alleged to have contravened Law 10 (e) Dangerous Tackling when he tackled Robbie Coleman in the air during the trial between the Brumbies and Highlanders at McDonalds Park in Wagga Wagga on Saturday 31 January 2015.

The referee for the match, Matt O'Brien, issued a red card for the incident which occurred in the 59th minute.

The case is to be considered by Stuart Pilkinton and will be heard via teleconference on Tuesday 3 February 2015 from 5:30pm AEDT (7:30pm NZL).
