The Hurricanes have named a 25-man touring squad for their tough three-match overseas opening to the 2012 Super Rugby season, taking on South African Conference champions the Stormers in their first match.

Captain Conrad Smith, who is still to play for the Hurricanes this year, will travel with the team, although it is unknown at this stage whether or not the World Cup winning All Blacks centre will be fit to play in Cape Town.

Scrumhalf Chris Smylie and prop Reg Goodes have been ruled out, after both picked up injuries in the Hurricanes 23-19 pre-season win over the Chiefs in Taupo on Friday in stormy and wet condition.

Goodes, who hails originally from Witbank near Pretoria, misses out on a return to his country of birth in Hurricanes colours.

The Hurricanes face the Lions and Force to round out the tour.

Last season the Hurricanes had mixed results against South African Conference opposition, losing 26-14 to the Bulls in Napier and 40-24 to the Sharks in Durban, but they took part in arguably the most entertaining match of the season when they defeated the Cheetahs 50-47 in Bloemfontein, while they accounted for the Lions 38-27 in Wellington.

The Hurricanes will get their South African matches out of the way early, hosting the Cheetahs and Sharks in round's six and seven respectively.
