Super Rugby Round #18 Referees

The referee appointments for the last round of the 2019 Super Rugby regular season [Round #18] are now confirmed.

The last seven-match round of the season, before the Finals, kicks-off in Invercargill where Mike Fraser will be in charge of the Highlanders [31 points] versus Waratahs [30 points] clash which is another last chance, must-win match for the home team - but who may also have to await other results. The same evening Angus Gardner will referee the massive Rebels [34 points] versus Chiefs [31 points] match in Melbourne where there is also a mathematical chance that both teams can make the Finals if they win the blockbuster. The third Friday match is in Buenos Aires where the Jaguares, who will top the South African Conference and therefore host a quarter-final, will host the Sunwolves. Federico Anselmi is the referee.

Saturday proceedings start in Wellington where the Hurricanes, who will host a quarter-final next week,  host the Blues with Glen Jackson the referee. Fellow Kiwi referee Paul Williams has the whistle for the Australian Conference derby between the Brumbies, who will win the Australian Conference and host a quarter-final, and the Reds in Canberra.

The regular season finishes with two intriguing South African Conference derbies that will be crucial to the outcome of the Conference and indeed the entire quarter-finals qualification. The Jaguares have won the Conference but all four South African teams can mathematically qualify for the quarter-finals. In Cape Town AJ Jacobs will referee the Stormers, fourth on 34 points, versus the Sharks who are currently fifth on 33 points. While Marius van der Westhuizen is in charge for the Bulls, second on 36 points, versus Lions who sit third on 35 points.
